Settled in 1807 by Isaac Bacon. He purchased 160 acres in 1806 and arrived in a covered wagon with his family in 1807. He was a Massachusetts native.

First log building in Northfield Center: an 1825 school house. First dwelling: Round-log house built by Hezekiah H. Palmer in 1832 . George Lillie built the second house and Lucien Bliss the third. 1833 saw Milton Arthur build a store-room with $500 worth of goods. B.F. Cannon also housed a small store but eventually sold this to Lucien and Hosea Bliss.
George Bishop, wealthy manufacturer, was born in Northfield.

Peter Serfass and wife Eva came to Norton in 1838 and spent the remainder of their lives here.
Jacob Stohl was another early settler. He married Mariah Reemsnyder and they had 10 children.
Nathan Seiberling settled here in 1831 leaving many descendants in this area.
Henry VanHyning was probably the oldest white person in Norton. His will was the first ever recorded in Summit County. He lived to the age of 102 dying Dec 15, 1840.
The Shaws of Johnson Corners were another early Norton family.
Thomas and Rowena Young came here in early 1804.
Named for Birdseye Norton, one of the original owners of the township.
First birth was a child of Lyman Bates but the child did not live long.
First death was that of Patty O'Brien, aged 2 years, daughter of John O'Brien.
