Was born in Lisbon, Conn., September 17, 1771; employed by the Erie Land Company to explore the "Connecticut Western Reserve;". Married on March 18,1804 to Miss. Nancy Anna Bishop. of Lisbon, born January 24, 1780.
Fought in the War of 1812, as a Brigadire General of the Militia. Postmaster of Warren in 1801till 1829. Founder of the Western Reserve Bank in 1813, and president of untill 1836. It was his extensive land holdings that made up much of what would become the Akron area.
General Perkins died at Warren, November6, 1844, age 73 years, 1month and 19 days. His wife dying April 24, 1862, age 82 years and 3 months.
His son, Col. George Perkins, (1836-1919), fought many battles in the Civil War. George was instrumental in bringing the rubber industry to the Akron area by convincing B.F. Goodrich to come to this area. He also contributed financially to Goodrich's company.
The mansion of Colonel Simon Perkins was constructed near historic Portage Path in Akron between 1835 and 1837. It is one of Akron's finest tourist attractions.
