The Seiberling Family of Akron, Summit County, Ohio

The progenator of the Seiberling family in Akron was Nathan Seiberling (1810-1889). Nathan had a total of 15 children. Nathan resided on a farm in Norton Township after coming to this area from PA about 1831.

The most prominent of these children in Akron was John F. Seiberling (1834-1903). John started many business adventures in the Akron area including Excelsior Mower & Reaper (1861), Empire Mower & Reaper, the Academy of Music, and Akron Strawboard Co. (1871). John had a total of 11 children including C.W. Seiberling (1861-1946) & F.A. Seiberling (1859-1955). C.W. & F.A. went on to found the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co in East Akron, 1898.

C.W. had 4 children including T.K. & Lucius M..

F.A. had 7 children.


Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens was built by Frank A. Seiberling in 1915.. The Manor House of 65-rooms and 70 acres is now an Akron tourist attraction.
The Beacon Journal is producing a series of articles this year (1997) that contains valuable information about this family in the Northeastern Ohio area. It is an excellent source for furthering research on this family and their descendants. The title of the article is A History of Rubber in Akron. It is being published in each Sunday edition of The Beacon Journal and is written by staff writers David Giffels and Steve Love. The series will run all year long.
